Brainless

Welcome the lion.

This image was based on a short story about 2 men and a lion.

My favorite things about this illustration are his claws, the tail and the colors.

Happy Belated Halloween...

An illustration based on a short story:

Two fella's were diggin' a grave, late at night. And one fella says to the other, "So do you believe in ghosts?"

The other fella says, "Sure" as he disappears.

The guy in the red hat is loosely based on my dad, in a really loooose kinda way. Dad doesn't have blond or long hair. But he does smoke cigarettes that burn with a really long ash... well at least I remember it that way.

Wind in Maggie's Hair

Maggie... is an illustration that I began developing in a completely inspired spat of doodling. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating her.

My process of developing this illustration was as follows. I drew a pencil sketch with my non-drawing (left) hand, then scanned the sketch, manipulated the line quality in Flash, vectorized it, then imported the vectorized lines into Illustrator, and applied colour and light to the illustration.

Part of what I love about this piece is the gentleness in Maggie's eyes, despite the fact that her hair is unruly and being blown about by the wind.

The play of light is an important factor to my work. Playing with the software that is often used to create very commercial work - and using it to create deeply personal pieces is something that I quite enjoy.

The Old Eatons Mansion

JRo, C and I went hiking at Seneca College this weekend. C being a 14 year old doesn't like walking or hiking very much. So when we talked about what we were going to be doing this weekend... all I said was "We're going to see the old Eatons Mansion - How cool is that?" She really got into it then. After 2 hours of walking around on a crisp autumn day she said "I haven't walked that long in a while." I think she actually enjoyed herself.

the Sporting Life 10 k

I ran my FIRST 10K with Elaine in April. Man it was fun. Can you imagine running down the longest street in the country with over 7000 people.. crazy i tell you... but mind blowingly fun. I finished in just over an hour. Next year I figure it will be under an hour.
